"Now & Then: BlackBerry to Octo-Mom"
March 30, 2009
|
Life changes SO fast these days, we
forget how different our lives have become in a
relatively short amount of time. Take for
example, the "Blackberry" (see picture below).
Today when you think of a "Blackberry", you
think of the "Curve" or the "Bold" or the
"Storm" or one of the many new versions of the
very popular smart phone. But, when I graduated
from college in 1984 (just 25 years ago) , a
"blackberry" was a fruit. |

The poor fruit has been forgotten. And there's more: Nowadays, we are
bombarded by pharmaceutical ads on TV, radio, and spam. The "Pharmaceutical
Sales" person is a common site in 2009. In 1984, a "Pharmaceutical Sales" person
was better known as a "Drug Dealer". A least these days they are dressing
better. |

|
Criminals have changed a lot in 25 years as well: "Bonnie & Clyde" were
the best known Bank Robbers in 1984. Nowadays -
it's "AIG". At least Bonnie & Clyde never robbed a bank AND then asked for a
bail-out and a bonus. |

And finally, Nadya Suleman is all over the news these days. All because
she had 8 kids - to add to the 6 kids she already had. The "Octo-Mom" is one of
the biggest stars of 2009. But being an "Octo-Mom" was no big deal in 1984, in
fact, it was a normal size litter. The difference is that no one asked my dog
("Julie" below) to appear on the Today Show, Access Hollywood, or Dr. Phil. And
she was never on Disability, MediCare, nor accepted Food Stamps - although
she readily accepted table scraps and pig ears. |
