"Nerds on Jeopardy"
February 26, 2010
| Sports categories on Jeopardy have
always been my favorite part of the
show. We take the smartest people in the
world and we ask them about History,
Literature, the Latin Roots of Words,
Opera, Science and, of course - Sports.
Why do we do this? So the rest of us
lower forms of humans feel at least
worthy of existence. The ONLY time you
get to see these Brainiacs look like
they might wet their pants is when they
have whittled the board down to one
final column and they are forced to
utter the words: "I'll take Hockey for
100, Alex". Here are some of my
favorites... |
BERNARD:
I'll take Baseball for 100,
Alex.
ALEX: They met in this
Years' World Series.
BUZZ
BERNARD:
Who were Sweden and Ecuador?
CARLTON:
Let's try Tennis for 300, Alex.
ALEX: This is the type
of surface on which Wimbledon is
contested.
BUZZ
BERNICE:
What is FLAT?
LEWIS:
I'd like to try Hockey for 200, Alex.
ALEX: He was known as
"The Rocket".
BUZZ
STUART:
Who was Robert Goddard?
CLARK:
I guess I'll have to take Football for
100, Alex.
ALEX: It's the home of
the Saints.
BUZZ
GERTRUDE:
What is the Vatican?
ENT
ALEX:
No, I'm sorry that is incorrect.
BUZZ
MILTON:
Ah ha! What is Heaven?
EDNA: Let's
finish up with Basketball for 500, Alex.
ALEX: He was known as
"Dr. J".
BUZZ
DONALD:
Who was Carl Jung?
Someday the Final Jeopardy category will
be Sports and it will be the first time
in history when all 3 competitors bet
$0.
