"A Pie Chart for Valentine's Day"

A Pie Chart for
Valentine's day is not your normal expression of
love. But as an engineer, it made perfect sense
to me. I wanted to express to my wife, Laura,
how I thought of her MORE than anything else
during the course of day - so I generated the
chart below. |
 |
|
I thought this chart was a romantic expression of my
feelings for her. If you look closely: Even at work, I think of her 4 % more
than I think about work. I think of her twice as much as my computer! Hell, I
think of her 7 times more often than I think of my own Mom. Does this not show
my wife she was more important to me than anything? The chart did not elicit the
desired reaction from my wife. In fact, she was disappointed. Apparently, she
wanted to see something more like this: |
 |
|
My wife wanted me to think of her 89% of the day. Of the free 11% left,
she wanted me to be thinking of “Things I can do for Her” 4.6% of the time. Wow,
love was a lot harder than I ever thought. At this point, I asked the obvious
question: “Well, how often do you think of me?” She said 80%. I said, “Really?
You love shopping. How often do you think of shopping?” She said she would be
honest. This was her breakdown: |
 |
She insists she thinks of me 80% of the time; Shopping 80% of the time;
Food 80% of the time; and her Mom 80% of the time. “Honestly,” she said,
“everything I love - I think of 80% of the time.” I am now beginning to
understand just how differently women’s brains operate. Women don’t even adhere
to the laws of mathematics. Her brain is working at 325%. No wonder I lose EVERY
argument .
